As a personal shopper for a woman with a high-school aged daughter, I was asked to shop and search the internet for prom dresses for the young girl which would not break the bank. I used search terms such as, “prom dresses 2011”, “prom dresses on sale”, and “short prom dresses 2011”. As I searched for “prom dresses 2011”, “prom dresses on sale”, and “short prom dresses 2011”, I often got results which were not containing what I was searching for. Most webstores or retail stores that advertised on the internet did not optimize their websites for search terms such as, “prom dresses 2011”, “prom dresses on sale”, and “short prom dresses 2011”, which were the terms I tried to utilize. Instead, the specialty stores selling these prom dresses on sale highlighted features such as the designers that are currently popular, trending colors and accessories, prices, and promotions. But none of these web specialty stores came up under my searches using, “prom dresses 2011”, “prom dresses on sale”, and “short prom dresses 2011”, which was very frustrating. My client’s daughter wanted a short prom dress, so finally, only using the search word grouping of “short prom dresses 2011”, I found a dress she loved.
